Natural light without the leak risk
A skylight transforms kitchens, stairwells, bathrooms and vaulted rooms. It is also a hole cut in your roof, which is why who installs it matters more than which unit you buy. Water does not enter through the glass; it enters where the skylight meets the roof.
As roofers, we treat every skylight as part of the roof system: placement planned against rafters and water pathways, factory flashing kits woven into the shingle courses, and ice and water protection around the opening. That is also why the best moment to add skylights is during a roof replacement, while everything is open.

Skylight installation questions
How much does skylight installation cost in NJ?
A single new VELUX skylight installed in an existing roof typically runs $2,500 to $5,500 depending on size, model (fixed, manual venting or solar venting), interior finishing and roof complexity. Installing skylights during a roof replacement is meaningfully cheaper per unit because the roof is already open.
Why should a roofer install my skylight instead of a handyman?
Because a skylight is a hole in your roof, and everything depends on how the flashing integrates with the shingle and underlayment layers around it. That is roofing work. Most skylight leaks we repair trace back to installation shortcuts around the flashing, not to the skylight itself.
What brands do you install?
Primarily VELUX, including models with solar powered blinds and venting. VELUX flashing kits paired with correct roof integration carry strong warranties and a track record we can stand behind.
Do skylights leak eventually?
A properly installed modern skylight with a factory flashing kit should stay dry as long as the roof around it. The reputation for leaking comes from older acrylic bubble units and from installs done without proper flashing integration. When we install skylights during a roof replacement, the skylight and the roof become one warranted system.
Is it worth adding skylights during a roof replacement?
It is the single best time to do it. The roof is already open, so the added cost per skylight is lower, the flashing integrates perfectly with the new system, and you avoid disturbing a finished roof later. Many of our roof replacement customers add one or two, most often over kitchens, stairwells and bathrooms.
Can you replace the skylights during a reroof if they still work?
We recommend it and so does VELUX: a 15 year old skylight in a brand new 30 year roof means opening that roof again mid life. Replacing skylights at reroof time keeps every layer on the same clock.
