What roofs are like in West Windsor
Most of the township is subdivision housing from the 1970s onward, which puts a large share of it at or past the age where an original or first replacement roof stops being reliable. The hamlets are the exception, with farmhouses and older village properties that need a different approach. The two sit side by side here more than in most townships we work in.
Twenty six square miles and almost completely flat, average elevation about 92 feet. The Assunpink Creek and the Millstone River drain it, and the Delaware and Raritan Canal runs along the edge. Two things follow from that. There is no high ground to break the wind, so nor easter gusts arrive at full strength and go to work on rake edges and ridge caps. And the low ground floods: Ida in September 2021 put the Millstone corridor under water and closed roads across the township.
West Windsor adopted a Historic Preservation Plan Element in August 2023, and the hamlets it covers include Grovers Mill, of War of the Worlds fame. One thing that catches people constantly: a Princeton 08540 mailing address does not mean Princeton. The Princeton post office facility actually sits inside West Windsor, so plenty of West Windsor homes carry a Princeton address. It changes nothing about who we send, but it is worth being clear which township you are in.
