Twenty years and more of New Jersey roofs
Our owner, Mauricio Saenz, has spent more than twenty years on New Jersey roofs. He worked for other roofing companies across the state for years before Skylight Roofing & Restoration existed. He is still on roofs now, and these are his photographs.

Those twenty years are not the company’s age. They are our owner’s.
Skylight Roofing & Restoration is younger than that. What carries the twenty years is the pair of hands behind it, and the habit of doing a roof the way it was taught to him on somebody else’s crew.
How it went
The start
The first ladder
Mauricio Saenz started out on somebody else’s New Jersey roofing crew. Tear offs in July, bundles up a ladder, felt down before the weather turned. It is learned the way it has always been learned: on the roof, next to somebody who already knows how, being told when you have got it wrong.
After that
Somebody else’s name on the truck
For years the work was for other roofing companies. Shingle and flat, skylights, storm work, houses packed shoulder to shoulder on a tight street and houses on their own out in the country. That is where a roofer learns what actually fails and why, because a valley flashed badly one summer is still leaking ten years later, and you are the one sent back to it.
Then
His own name on the truck
Skylight Roofing & Restoration came later: his own company, his own crews, the same trade done his way. Nothing subcontracted, then or now. The people who quote your roof are the people who turn up to do it, which is how the detailing stays the same from tear off to the last ridge cap.
Today
Two offices and a crew that stays
Offices in Princeton and Warren, more than 500 homes roofed and repaired across Central New Jersey, and an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred certification that lets us put a factory backed warranty of up to 50 years on the whole system. The Google rating is 4.9 from more than 160 reviews, and a striking number of them name one of our people by first name.

What twenty years is actually worth to you
Time served is not a reason to hire anybody on its own. These four are what it changes about the roof over your head.
He has watched these roofs get old
A roof he helped lay early on is coming due about now. Twenty years in one state means seeing the same shingles, the same valleys and the same skylights age through the same winters, and knowing which of them give out early.
New Jersey wears a roof its own way
Barely any hail here. What does the damage is freeze and thaw prying small cracks wider all winter, ice dams at cold eaves, and nor’easters lifting shingles that had already lost their seal. You build for that differently once you have seen twenty winters of it.
Repair or replace, said straight
Somebody who has done both for twenty years does not need to sell you a roof to make the week work. When a repair is the smarter move that is what goes in the report, in writing, even though it is the smaller job for us.
A reputation with a name on it
Storm chasers work a town for a season and move on, because nobody there knows their name. Read our reviews and count how many name the person who did the work. That is what twenty years in the same counties buys, and it is the one thing that cannot be copied in.
Mauricio and his entire team from Skylight Roofing and Restoration are simply terrific.
